All IELTS exams must be booked online and in advance. Before you apply, make sure you have a quality scan of your valid passport or PR card and your credit or debit card ready.

Step 1: Choose the type of test

Decide if you need a General or Academic Test.  Check with the organization you are applying to about which test you need.

  • IELTS Academic Exam: For people who want to study or train in higher education institutions or for professional registration.
  • IELTS General Training Exam: For people who want to immigrate to Canada.

All tests at the IELTS centre in Ontario are Paper-based. 

Step 2: Choose your test location and date

Step 3: Book your test

Create your profile and complete the application process. You must enter your information exactly as it appears on your ID document. Upload a high quality colour scan of either your current valid passport or your Permanent Resident (PR) Card. Follow these instructions to upload your ID document.

Booking speaking tests

For the paper-based test, your speaking test time will be provided to you on the day of your test. You will be notified in advance only if your speaking interview is scheduled for a different day. 

Step 4: Pay for your test

Prices vary depending on the location of your test.

Pay online by credit or debit card.

Payment is required immediately or within 48 hours of booking. If we do not receive full payment within this time, your booking will be released and you will need to re-book your place.

Step 5: Check your confirmation and prepare

You will receive an automated confirmation and receipt immediately after you register and pay. Please check to ensure it is correct. If any details are incorrect or you have chosen the wrong type of test, you must contact the ILAC IELTS test centre immediately at:

Changes to your test date, test location or test type are subject to availability and a fee. Any requests to change your test must be made at least 5 weeks before your test date (for paper-based tests). Read more about transfers and cancellations.

Step 6: Get ready for your exam

To pass the IELTS exam, you need to demonstrate a high level of English in speaking, reading, writing and listening. Preparing for the exam by taking a course or doing practice tests is highly recommended. ILAC offers part-time, full-time and virtual IELTS preparation courses to prepare you for each section of the exam and give you the confidence to succeed.
